“Git Up” for National School Lunch Week

To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving 30 million children each day, Waukee Community School District will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 14-18, 2019. The theme, “School Lunch: What’s on Your Playlist,” spotlights how today’s school cafeterias are serving up healthy menu items that kids want to eat, with increased choice and customization.

Waukee Nutrition Services staff kicked off the week, by asking families to “Git Up” for school lunch. The week will feature a variety of activities including food tastings and take your parents to lunch day at all elementary buildings on Wednesday, October 16.

Waukee Nutrition Services prepares and serves about 8,000 healthy meals to students every day.  All school meals meet federal nutrition standards by offering fruits and vegetables, serving whole grain-rich foods and limiting fat, calories, and sodium. By the end of this school year, approximately 1.6 million lunches will be served in the Waukee Community School District.

National School Lunch Week is an opportunity to celebrate the time and dedication our nutrition staff put into preparing meals. Thank you for your service!
